Maia and Guida are the first two residents of Elephant Sanctuary Brazil (ESB). Although they had a terrible past as circus elephants who performed for 35 years, and were then chained for another 5, their life and who they are has changed dramatically. They left their fears and insecurities behind and have blossomed both individually and in their relationship with each other. Although their journey of healing has been different, both girls epitomize the recovery that only sanctuary can offer.
Elephant Sanctuary Brazil is Global Sanctuary for Elephants' pilot project. The sanctuary is located in Chapada dos Guimarães, Brazil on 2800 stunning acres. This land provides everything an elephant could want, including fresh springs and streams, hills, large boulders and rock faces, forested areas and lush pastures. The location provides year round warm temperatures, making it so the elephants will not have to return to the barn at night or during any part of the year. It is the perfect setting for giving elephants back the natural life that was taken away from them so long ago. ESB intends to house elephants of both species and genders. https://globalelephants.org
